Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Echo Deutsch (“we”, “the site”) handles information when you use the practice player and related pages. The site is aimed at learners including people in the European Union and Germany.

Summary

• No accounts, no logins, no learner profiles on our servers.
• Practice settings and bookmarks stay in your browser via localStorage.
• Videos are embedded from YouTube (Google); their privacy rules apply to that embed.
• We do not currently run our own advertising or analytics scripts on this site.

What we store on your device

The practice player may save small pieces of data in your browser’s localStorage, for example:

• Last selected video
• Bookmarked caption lines (keyed by video)
• Whether you dismissed the short onboarding tip

This data stays on your device. Clearing site data in your browser removes it. We cannot read your bookmarks from a server because we do not collect them.

What we do not collect

Echo Deutsch does not ask for your name, email, or password to use the player. There is no user database operated by this project for practice progress.

YouTube embeds

Lessons play through the official YouTube embed / IFrame API. When a video loads, YouTube (Google) may process technical data according to their own policies — for example cookies or device identifiers used to deliver and measure video playback. That processing is controlled by Google, not by Echo Deutsch.

Analytics and advertising (future)

Today this site does not load third-party analytics or ad networks such as Google AdSense. If we add privacy-friendly analytics or advertising later, we will update this page before enabling those scripts and describe what is measured, who the provider is, and what choices you have (including consent where required).

Legal bases (EU / GDPR, where applicable)

For localStorage used to remember your practice preferences and bookmarks, we rely on legitimate interests in providing a working offline-capable study tool on your device, and/or necessity to provide the service you request. Embedded YouTube content may involve processing by Google under their own roles and bases.

Children

The site is a language-learning tool. It is not directed at children under 16 in a way that knowingly collects personal data. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through a contact email, contact us and we will help delete any correspondence we hold.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after updates means you accept the revised policy.
