About

What is Echo Deutsch?

A calm, free companion for practicing German with Deutsche Welle’s Nicos Weg films — built for listening, repeating, and noticing language.

Echo Deutsch is a browser-based practice tool. It embeds the official Nicos Weg videos from YouTube and overlays study features: dual German/English captions (when available), slower playback, shadowing pauses, A–B loops, listen→reveal, light dictation, and bookmarks.

The goal is simple: spend more time speaking and noticing phrases, and less time hunting for settings. On phones, player options live in a drawer so the video and captions stay front and center.

Not affiliated with Deutsche Welle

Echo Deutsch is an independent learner project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Deutsche Welle (DW) or the Nicos Weg course team. Videos remain on YouTube under DW’s publishing; this site does not host or redistribute video files.

What you can practice here

  • Watch with dual captions and adjustable speed
  • Shadowing — hear a line, pause, say it aloud
  • Loop sticky phrases until they feel natural
  • Listen → reveal to check comprehension
  • Dictation for spelling and listening accuracy
  • Bookmarks saved in your browser for review

Who it’s for

Beginners working through A1 material, and learners moving into A2/B1 who still want structured listening with the same series. If you already use Nicos Weg on DW or YouTube, this player is meant to sit beside that study — not replace DW’s lessons or exercises.
