Episode summary

Still processing the residence news, Selma says she should feel happy they can stay in Germany, yet something pulls at her. A friend suggests this is not her homeland; Selma answers that it is a different, new Heimat and that she finds Germany beautiful. They compare: food, weather, language, and people all feel different from Syria. Seasons exist in both places—spring, summer, autumn, winter—but Syrian winters are less cold. Food culture leans heavily toward meat, with fewer vegetarians. Above all, Syria has fewer rules and more life on the street in the evening: shops stay open longer, people are outside, and daily life feels more spontaneous and relaxed. Almost everything differs, Selma concludes, except one warm constant—people in Germany are just as nice as people in Syria.
