Episode summary
Someone stares at an overloaded fridge and jokes that it is too small for everything just bought. Sister Klara’s pears become an accidental casualty—“those were my sister’s pears”—then the sorting begins in earnest. Fruit goes together: apples, oranges, and pears onto a plate; meat higher up; cheese rediscovered in the mix. Breakfast supplies follow—jam, butter, quark, and ham—until the kitchen feels ready for company. The reason for the stock-up becomes clear: a visitor arrives today for a few days, a young man, and the host hopes that is okay when speaking to Günther. The episode is a dense Lebensmittel drill wrapped in a hosting story, perfect for gender practice with everyday food nouns. Keep naming each food item with its article as you listen.

Grammar & usage focus
Food nouns and articles: der / die / das on the shopping shelf
German food words keep their gender even in long lists. Practice them with the article: der Apfel, die Birne, das Obst, der Käse, die Butter. Collective das Obst stays singular even when many pieces sit on a plate. Saying the article every time you unpack a fridge item trains gender faster than bare word lists.
Examples
- Die Äpfel und die Orangen kommen auf den Teller.
- Die Marmelade, die Butter und der Schinken sind fürs Frühstück.

Tips for shadowing this episode
Unpack along with the speaker: say each food noun with its article before the next item appears. Group your own kitchen into Obst / Frühstück / anderes and label three sticky notes in German. On replay, mute the English and only write plurals you hear (Äpfel, Birnen, Orangen).
