Episode summary

Guests leave after a tasty fish meal and confirm next week’s football: Friday at two, not at one. Nico then asks what a bank clerk actually has to do. Max explains: sometimes count money, advise customers, check finances, and organize appointments — lots of office work such as writing emails and signing contracts, plus staying friendly. They joke that restaurants need friendliness too, though not always. Asked about an electrician, Tarek says he installs devices or repairs things, which sounds cool, but both prefer being the bosses here. They work hard and still call the job great. Suddenly someone spots Lisa’s folder; she needs it, so they hurry to bring it to her. Modal müssen plus job tasks is the linguistic core of the whole conversation.

Grammar & usage focus

Job duties with müssen + infinitive

Max describes a profession by stacking müssen + infinitive: muss Geld zählen, muss Kunden beraten, muss Finanzen überprüfen. The conjugated modal sits in second position; the main verb stays at the end in the infinitive. You can list several duties in one breath or start new clauses with und. This pattern works for any job description at A1 without complicated relative clauses.

Examples

  • Ein Bankkaufmann muss Kunden beraten und Termine organisieren.
  • Ein Elektriker muss Geräte installieren oder etwas reparieren.
