Episode summary

On the way to Yara’s street, the friends play Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst to pass the time. One clue is something big and red; Nico guesses the car, but the car is red and small, not big. The correct answer is the house. Next clues mix sizes awkwardly—big and small—then jump to something big and yellow, which again turns out to be the house. They arrive at August-Straußberg-Gasse 23 and confirm the number on the building, yet there is no bike shop in sight. Someone jokes with a final I-spy line: what they see is something that is not there. The disappointment lands clearly—the address must be wrong, there really is no Fahrradladen here—and a friend apologizes to Nico before they leave.

Grammar & usage focus

Describing things with predicative adjectives

After sein, adjectives stay short—no ending: Das Auto ist rot. Das Haus ist groß. You can stack qualities with und: groß und gelb. Negation with aber contrasts two ideas: Das Auto ist rot, aber es ist nicht groß, es ist klein. This predicative pattern is ideal for the I-spy game and for simple street descriptions.

Examples

  • Das Haus ist groß und gelb.
  • Das Auto ist rot, aber es ist klein.

Tips for shadowing this episode

Practice color + size pairs out loud: groß und rot, klein und blau—predicative adjectives never take endings. Use aber to correct yourself politely when a guess is only half right. Es tut mir leid is the standard soft apology when plans fall through.
