Episode summary

At the restaurant counter, the waiter greets them and asks whether they will pay together or separately. They choose together and ask what the order costs. Three salami pizzas come to 22.50; a tuna pizza and a Hawaii without ham add another 18 euros, for a total of 40.50. The waiter asks about cash or card. Someone pays cash with 45 euros and says keep the change, then takes the receipt. Back at the table they sort who gets which pizza—Hawaii without ham, tuna, and the several salami orders—so nobody grabs the wrong plate. One friend explains that a pizza is about ten euros plus tip and treats another person: Du bist eingeladen. The mood softens when they realize this may be the last pizza here because Nawin is leaving. They learn the warmer German word Abschiedsparty for the gathering and wish each other Guten Appetit before eating.

Drill euro amounts out loud—zweiundzwanzig Euro fünfzig sounds very different from the digits. Learn both Zusammen and Getrennt so you can answer the waiter immediately. Das stimmt so is short, polite, and useful whenever you leave the change as a tip.
