Episode summary

Around a table, the group talks about Yara: she is pretty, she lives in Germany, and someone asks whether she lives in this city. Nobody knows her bike shop by name, so the conversation turns practical and a little playful. A host asks what everyone would like to drink and lists apple juice, water, beer, wine, cola, and lemonade, then adds that coffee and tea are also available. One person takes a beer without hesitation. Another orders coffee with lots of milk but little sugar and even helps prepare it. Nico is asked if he is thirsty too and chooses cola; someone else picks lemonade so the whole table has something different. Then comes the plan: post Yara’s photo on Book and ask who recognizes the bike shop so they can find the address. Hunger comes up next, menus appear on the table, and they toast with a cheerful Prost. At the end someone notices Nawin is missing and wonders aloud where he is.

Grammar & usage focus

Ordering drinks with möchten and nehmen

When you order a drink in German, two patterns are especially useful. Was möchtest du trinken? asks what someone would like; the answer often uses ich möchte or the more casual ich nehme / ich nehm. Add details with mit (with) and the adverbs viel (a lot) and wenig (a little): mit viel Milch, aber wenig Zucker. Drink nouns keep their gender in the order: ein Bier, einen Kaffee, eine Cola.

Examples

  • Ich möchte einen Tee mit wenig Zucker.
  • Für mich bitte ein Wasser, danke.

Tips for shadowing this episode

Practice saying your usual café order out loud: Ich nehme einen Kaffee mit Milch. Listen for viel versus wenig—they change the meaning of the same drink. Prost is the toast word; you will hear it again whenever glasses clink in later episodes.
